Project Evaluation Member of the mid-term evaluation of the Eastern Refugee Reforestation Project implemented by CARE under USAID funding. Discovered project was attempting to plant trees outside of their natural range and that previously unexamined survival data revealed unexplained, ongoing tree mortality on vertisols. It is speculated that the severe dry season cracking literally tears their root systems apart. The project was supposed to demonstrate the benefits of agroforestry but had not identified any successful techniques that could be extended –1988.
