Project Evaluation Led the evaluation of the UNDP GEF project that developed management systems and capacities for the first three, newly created protected areas in Lebanon covering cedar forests and marine ecosystems. Found that the project had been quite successful in ensuring biodiversity conservation at the three sites. Recommended that future efforts focus on developing capacities at the PA network or system level. The marine biodversity component developed a very successful community-based coastal fisheries system that turned the leader of the opposition into a strong proponent of the system. 2004
