Team leader for the mid-term evaluation of the CARE Koro Agroforestry Project. Found that the awareness raising for the establishment of Majia Valley (Niger) style windbreaks was highly successful but that there was a strong chance it might not be technically warranted given the 80meter deep water table in the Koro area.
Team leader for the UNDP/UNEP Indigenous Vegetation Project with field sites in Kenya, Botswana and Mali. Found that the project had not initiated the most essential component of the project, that of developing community-based range management systems. Found that the open-acces spasture resources northwest of Bamako near the Mauritanian border were typically exhausted by January each dry season leaving livestock little to survive on until the next rains came in June or July.
NRM specialist on the Upper Senegal River Master Planning Team covering parts of Senegal and Mali. Traveled twice to newly completed Manantali Dam while its reservoir was still filling. Developed strategies for the development of participatory natural resource management systems in the Senegal River Valley.
